My goal for you and Travel with Passion is to help you maximize your experiences when you travel at home and abroad, with your family, in a group or solo.
Travel with Passion grew from my lifelong love and passion for travel that I want to share with all of you. Since I was a little girl growing up in Indiana, I have dreamed of traveling the world – not just seeing the world through pictures, but truly experiencing it. It wasn’t until my twenties that I was able to start living that dream. I met my husband in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – my first international trip. 15 years of marriage and 2 children later, I have been fortunate to fill my passport with stamps from South Africa, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Australia, Vietnam, Cambodia, Dominican Republic, Victoria BC, Vancouver BC, Bali, Belize, Costa Rica and Mexico once more.
In South Africa I went on safari including 10 game drives and 3 bush walks, in Zambia I zip lined across the Zambezi River to Zimbabwe and saw Victoria Falls. In Vietnam, I trekked and camped for 4 days through Son Doong Cave – the largest cave in the world, did an 18 mile bike ride in southern Vietnam and crawled through the Chu Chi Tunnels. Top on the list for my next adventure trip is Bhutan.
Since having my children, it has been a priority for me to show them the world, giving them a foundation and confidence to travel. Knowing I have a limited time with them at home, (18 summers!) I have developed a plan for trips I hope to take, outlined by budget and timed according to their ages. This plan goes out until 2026, when my daughter graduates high school. So far, as a family, we have been to 4 of the major Hawaiian Islands, Walt Disney World, Universal Studios Florida, Disneyland, Los Angeles, Australia, Costa Rica, Boston, Philadelphia, Gettysburg, Washington DC, Williamsburg, VA, New York City, Chicago, Dallas, San Diego, Myrtle Beach, Savannah, Indiana, Michigan, skiing at Breckenridge, CO, Sun Valley, ID and White Pass, WA and visits to the following National Parks – Yellowstone, Olympic, Yosemite and Volcano. Annually we take a ski trip and visit at least one national park.
Next on our travels as a family are New York City, again, for a theater trip, Walt Disney World, Universal Studios, Everglades National Park and The Florida Keys.
In addition to the above, I have also been to all 5 Hawaiian Islands, Las Vegas, San Francisco, Pebble Beach/Monterey/Big Sur, CA and Indian Wells, CA.
Once I started the journey of opening Travel with Passion, I knew I wanted to gain as much industry experience as possible to create a professional environment for my business to grow. That begins with education. In June I passed the Travel Agent Proficiency (TAP) test. It is the nationally standardized test for travel agents developed by The Travel Institute and the American Society of Travel Agents (ASTA). I am also a destination specialist for Costa Rica, Alaska, South Africa, New Zealand and Hawaii. Before life with kids and starting Travel with Passion, I earned my Bachelor of Arts Degree in Speech Communication and Public Relations and my Master of Arts Degree in Journalism with an emphasis in Public Relations. I then worked in marketing, public relations and fundraising until I had my son in 2005. Since then I have stayed home to raise my children. Travel with Passion will allow me to continue to be at home with them while living out a passion of helping other people travel well. When I am not busy planning trips, traveling or parenting, I like to stay as active as possible. I have run 7 full marathons and 5 half marathons. Marathons include Chicago, Portland, Seattle, Big Sur, Walt Disney World (Dopey Challenge) and 2 New York City. I have 3 more full marathons planned by January of 2019 – Victoria, BC, California International Marathon in Sacramento, CA and the last one at Walt Disney World. If you are a runner and a Disney fan, it is the ultimate race!
